  1. 1. Phosphatidylethanol - formation and degradation in blood and organs

    Författare :Steina Aradottir; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostik; Public health; Diagnostics; organs; blood; HPLC; in vitro; in vivo; human; rat; phosphatidylethanol; phospholipase D; alcohol; ethanol; epidemiology; Folkhälsa; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is an abnormal phospholipid formed exclusively by the action of phospholipase D (PLD) in the presence of ethanol. The degradation of PEth is slow and due to its accumulation in some cells the possibility to use PEth as marker of ethanol intake has been proposed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intestinal permeability : a parameter of mucosal dysfunction

    Författare :Pål Lundin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peptide; N-acetylcysteine; Medium-chain glyceride; Mannitol; Macromolecules; Lipid; Kinetics; In vivo; In vitro; In situ; Intestine; Injury; Inflammation; HLA-B27; HCl; Epithelium; Enhancer; dDAVP; 51Cr-EDTA; BSA; Absorption; Albumin; Permeability; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, and to act as a barrier towards hazardous and non-nutritional substances. In the present thesis the barrier function of the gastrointestinal tract was studied in animal models in vivo, in situ and in vitro. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Gasfasympning är en del i den moderna strategin för optimering av den molekylära designen av biomaterial. Kovalent ytmodifiering med hydrofila vinylmonomerer och koppling med bioaktiva grupper används för att öka biokompatibiliteten och bioaktiviteten hos biomaterialen.. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring Anti-FVIII Antibodies in Haemophilia A - Role in In Vitro Haemostasis and Clinical Disease

    Författare :Jenny Klintman; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hemophilia A; inhibitors; non-neutralizing anti-FVIII antibodies; thrombin generation assay; ELISA;

    Sammanfattning : Haemophilia A (HA) is caused by defective synthesis of coagulation factor VIII(FVIII), which has serious effects on haemostasis; joints being the most common site of bleeding. The development of FVIII replacements has improved the situation for patients with haemophilia such that chronic arthropathy can be prevented, and life expectancy and the quality of life have increased. 5. 5. Interactions between extracellular matrix proteins and the complement system - In the perspective of cartilage degradation in inflammatory joint diseases

    Författare :Camilla Melin Fürst; Malmö Proteinkemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Complement system; rheumatoid arthritis; osteoarthritis; extracellular matrix; cartilage degradation; mass spectrometry;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: The joint diseases osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are characterized by destructive inflammatory processes that result in pathological changes of the joint tissues, including proteolytic degradation of cartilage and release of extracellular matrix proteins or fragments to the synovial fluid. The complement system, which is a part of the innate immune system, plays a central role in promoting the joint inflammation in these diseases. LÄS MER
