  1. 1. Passivity & Breakdown of Super Duplex Stainless Steel : Studied with Electrochemical & Synchrotron Techniques

    Författare :Marie Långberg; Jinshan Pan; David Lindell; Ulf Kivisäkk; Edvin Lundgren; Sannakaisa Virtanen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Passive film; duplex stainless steel; synchrotron X-ray reflectivity; X-ray diffraction; X-ray fluorescence; hard X-ray Photoelectron emission microscopy; X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy; Electrochemical impedance; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Super duplex stainless steel consists of two phases: austenite and ferrite, and is a highly corrosion resistant material, with a wide range of applications. The corrosion resistance of stainless steels is determined by the performance of a spontaneously formed thin Cr oxide rich film with a thickness of 1-3 nm. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Exploration of Non-Aqueous Metal-O2 Batteries via In Operando X-ray Diffraction

    Författare :Chenjuan Liu; Torbjörn Gustafsson; Laurence Hardwick; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Non-aqueous metal-air (Li-O2 and Na-O2) batteries have been emerging as one of the most promising high-energy storage systems to meet the requirements for demanding applications due to their high theoretical specific energy. In the present thesis work, advanced characterization techniques are demonstrated for the exploration of metal-O2 batteries. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Synchrotron X-ray based characterization of technologically relevant III-V surfaces and nanostructures

    Författare :Andrea Troian; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; synchrotron radiation; III-V semiconductors; high-k oxides; passivation; doping; XPS; AP-XPS; SPEM; XRF; full field X-ray diffraction microscopy; Fysicumarkivet A:2019:Troian;

    Sammanfattning : Innovative design and materials are needed to satisfy the demand for efficient and scalable devices for electronic and opto-electronic applications, such as transistors, LEDs, and solar cells. Nanostructured III-V semiconductors are an appealing solution, combining the excellent functional properties of III-V materials with the flexibility typical of nanostructures, such as the nanowires (NWs) studied here. 4. 4. The O2 electrode performance in the Li-O2 battery

    Författare :Jia Liu; Jiefang Zhu; Kristina Edström; Poul Norby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Li-oxygen battery; X-ray irradiation; Electrocatalyst; Synchrotron radiation powder X-ray diffraction; Time-resolved kinetics; Binder-free cathode; Bird’s nest microstructure.;

    Sammanfattning : Li-O2 batteries have been attracting increasing attention and R&D efforts as promising power sources for electric vehicles (EVs) due to their significantly higher theoretical energy densities compared to conventional Li-ion batteries. The research presented in this thesis covers the investigation of factors influencing the decomposition of Li2O2, the development of highly active electrocatalysts, and the design of low-cost and easy-operation binder-free O2 electrodes for Li-O2 batteries.
