1. Salivary gland neoplasms : studies on the cytoskeleton, the secretory apparatus and the nuclear DNA content
Sammanfattning : The heterogeneity of salivary gland neoplasms have made classification and prognostication of these tumours sometimes difficult, and the introduction of techniques, such as enzyme and carbohydrate histochemistry and electron microscopy have only to a certain extent increased our knowledge in these respects. In the present study immunohistochemical methods have been used to identify intermediate filament proteins (IFP) in normal fetal and adult parotid glands, as well as in salivary neoplasms. LÄS MER
2. Poplar wood formation : genotypical influences on structure and chemistry
Sammanfattning : Genotypical effects on wood formation in aspen (Populus tremula x tremuloides) have been studied at morphological, ultrastructural and micro-distributional levels. To characterize transgenically induced modifications, light-, fluorescence-, UV-, scanning- and transmission electron microscopy have been applied complemented by immunolabeling, histochemistry, multivariate statistics and image analysis. 3. RP59 : a novel stem cell protein and mapping of its expression
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to study the expression pattern of a novel protein daring developmental processes. Firstly we identified so far unknown mRNA sequences coding for frequently expressed proteins in primitive mesenchymal cells in bone marrow and osteoblasts. LÄS MER
4. Myosin myopathy. A new disease entity
Sammanfattning : By the discovery and characterization of two familial myopathies caused by mutations in myosin heavy chaingenes, we introduce a new entity within the field of neuromuscular disorders: Myosin myopathyThe first myopathy affected a family in western Sweden. Previous linkage analysis had located the gene tochromosome 17p13. LÄS MER
5. Aspects of pathological apoptosis in the immature brain after hypoxia-ischemia
Sammanfattning : The cause of mechanisms underlying perinatal brain injury is not fully known, but it results in a wide variety of neurological impairments in the affected children. When injured, neurons of the newborn brain are prone to undergo programmed cell death, apoptosis, since this genetic program is normally activated in some cells during development of the nervous system, even in the perinatal period.
