  1. 21. Sex differences in immune response and sex hormone receptor expression in healthy individuals and during viral infection

    Författare :Peik M. A. Brundin; Anders F. Johansson; Ivan Nalvarte; Carl-Johan Treutiger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; immune response; menstrual cycle; puumala virus; hantavirus; torque teno virus; sex hormones; sex hormone receptors; estrogen receptors; estrogen receptor beta2; sex differences; microbiome; virome; endocrinology; peripheral blood mononuclear cells; qPCR; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology; immunologi; Immunology; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Medicine; medicin; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : There is sex-bias in morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases. Infections kill more men than women and several studies have pointed out differences in the immune system as a reason. The sex hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone all shape the effect of the immune response on multiple levels. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Immune modulation in serous epithelial ovarian cancer : focus on the role of tumor-derived exosomes

    Författare :Alireza Labani Motlagh; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Ola Winqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ovarian cancer; EOC; HGSC; exosomes; NKG2D; MICA B; ULBP; DNAM-1; PVR; nectin-2; lncRNAs; immune suppression; anti-tumor immunity; NK-cell cytotoxicity; cytokines; Th1; Th2; T regulatory response; inflammation; tumor microenvironment;

    Sammanfattning : Serous epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is a potent suppressor of the immune defense. Here, we studied interactions between EOC and the immune system that lead to escape from tumor immune surveillance. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Role of extracellular ATP in immune mechanisms against infections

    Författare :Lalitha Tadala; Andrea Puhar; Sara I Wilson; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Mikael Sellin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Extracellular ATP; invasive bacteria; Shigella; Listeria; plasma membrane ruffle; PIEZO1; infection; immune response; Hanta virus; molekylär cellbiologi; molecular cell biology;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is driven either by infection with pathogens or sterile stimuli, such as tissue damage or autoimmune diseases. Upon tissue damage, ATP is released passively from the dead or compromised cells. During stress, ATP can be secreted from the cells. Extracellular ATP (eATP) acts as an endogenous danger signal. 4. 24. Mutation and immune profiling of non-small cell lung cancer

    Författare :Linnéa La Fleur; Johan Botling; Fernando López-Ríos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Non-small cell lung cancer; Tumor microenvironment; Tumor-associated macrophages; Immune infiltrates; PD-L1; Mutation patterns; Immune therapy; MARCO; TP53; STK11; KRAS;

    Sammanfattning : Several novel therapies that target molecular alterations and immune checkpoints in lung cancer have been introduced in the last decade. Still, only a minority of patients obtain long term disease control and overall survival remains poor. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Immunotoxicology in Marine Invertebrates - Effects of Manganese on Immune Response

    Författare :Carolina A. M. Oweson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Invertebrates; Immune system; Haemocytes; Manganese Mn ; Immunotoxicology; Crustacea; Mollusca; Echinodermata;

    Sammanfattning : Manganese, Mn, is an abundant element in nature, particularly in soft bottom sediments of the oceans and in bedrock. The metal is predominantly bound to the sediment in the colloid state, MnO2. LÄS MER
