  1. 1. Allogeneic dendritic cells as adjuvants in cancer immunotherapy

    Författare :Grammatiki Fotaki; Magnus Essand; Alex Karlsson-Parra; Di Yu; Tanja de Gruijl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allogeneic dendritic cells; immune primer; adjuvant; adenoviral vector; cancer immunotherapy; tumor microenvironment; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, immunotherapeutic approaches have achieved remarkable successes through checkpoint blockade antibodies, advances in the use of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells and new insights into the immunosuppressive role of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Through the advances, the role of cancer vaccines based on ex vivo manipulated autologous dendritic cells (DC) has been challenged. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic Analyses using Rolling Circle or PCR Amplified Padlock Probes

    Författare :Johan Banér; Sanjay Tyagi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; Padlock probes; rolling circle amplification; PCR; genotyping; microarray; expression analysis; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Padlock probes are useful in a variety of genetic applications, some of which require that the probes are amplified in order to generate detectable signals. Two general padlock amplification methods, RCA and PCR, are discussed in this thesis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Deciphering HIV genetic variability and evolution by massive parallel pyrosequencing and bioinformatics

    Författare :Johanna Brodin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 is a virus with a very variable genome and therefore has the ability to adapt to new environments which include escape from immune pressure and suboptimal antiretroviral treatment. Next-generation sequencing (NGS), especially ultra-deep pyrosequencing (UDPS), has enabled in-depth sequencing studies with a previously unattainable resolution. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nucleic acid-based detection and characterization of hepatitis C virus

    Författare :Zhibing Yun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HCV; PCR; genotype; HVRI; heterogeneity; IFN-a; immunodeficiency;

    Sammanfattning : Nucleic acid-based methods were developed to detect and characterize the HCV genome in immunocompetent and immunodeficient patents of whom some were IFN-a treated. HCV RNA was found in most sera (95%), livers (97%) and PBMC (100%) of patients with confirmed chronic hepatitis, but also in sera (21%) of patients with indeterminate confirmatory antibody test, especially those with c22 antigen reactivity. 5. 5. Vibro cholerae O139 : identification, characterization and vaccine strategies

    Författare :Susanna Falklind Jerkérus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Vibrio cholerae 0139; diarrhea; detection; carbohydrate mimics;

    Sammanfattning : Cholera is an acute dehydrating diarrheal disease, and epidemics as well as pandemics of cholera are a major health problem in developing countries and cause many deaths each year, especially in children. Cholera is caused by Vibrio cholerae serogroup, 01 and since 1992 also by serogroup 0139. The emergence of V. LÄS MER
