11. Spectral Accuracy in Fast Ewald Methods and Topics in Fluid Interface Simulation
Sammanfattning : This work contains two separate but related parts: one on spectrally accurate and fast Ewald methods for electrostatics and viscous flow, and one on micro- and complex fluid interface problems. In Part I we are concerned with fast and spectrally accurate methods to compute sums of slowly decaying potentials over periodic lattices. LÄS MER
12. Numerical modeling of deforming bubble transport related to cavitating hydraulic turbines
Sammanfattning : Cavitation is a problem in many hydroelectric power plants since it can cause adverse effects on performance and damage to nearby solid surfaces. The concerns of this thesis are the numerical aspects of flow simulations in cavitating hydraulic turbines which contain several difficulties: turbulent and complex flows, steady and moving parts of the geometry, bubble transport and cavitation development. 13. Advances in droplet evaporation
Sammanfattning : Droplet evaporation (and condensation) is one of the most common instances of multiphase flow with phase change, encountered in nature as well as in technical applications. Examples include falling rain drops, fogs and mists, aerosol applications like electronic cigarettes and inhalation drug delivery, and engineering applications like spray combustion, spray wet scrubbing or gas absorption, spray drying, flame spray pyrolysis. 14. High order trapezoidal rule-based quadratures for boundary integral methods on non-parametrized surfaces
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with computational methods for solving boundary integral equations (BIE) on surfaces defined without explicit parametrization, called Implicit Boundary Integral Methods (IBIM). Using implicit methods for describing surfaces, such as the level-set method, can be advantageous for complex geometries and problems where the surface evolves over time. LÄS MER
15. A Study on the Influence of Steel, Slag or Gas on Refractory Reactions
Sammanfattning : During the production of steel the oxide inclusion content partly depends on the reaction of the melt with the furnace lining, the ladle lining and the pouring system. The refractory material may be eroded by the molten steel and slag as well as corroded through chemical reactions with the slag and molten steel and the deoxidation products. LÄS MER
