  1. 1. A new finite element method for elliptic interface problems

    Författare :Alexei Loubenets; Björn Engquist; Gustav Amberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Sammanfattning : A finite element based numerical method for the two-dimensional elliptic interface problems is presented. Due to presence of these interfaces the problem will contain discontinuities in the coefficients and singularities in the right hand side that are represented by delta functionals along the interface. 2. 2. Ionic liquids : The solid-liquid interface and surface forces

    Författare :Nicklas Hjalmarsson; Mark W Rutland; Rob Atkin; Enrico Gnecco; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ionic liquids; solid-liquid interface; surface forces; nanotribology; atomic force microscopy; quartz crystal microbalance; Jonvätskor; gränsskiktet mellan fasta ytor och vätskor; ytkrafter; nanotribologi; atomkraftsmikroskopi; kvartskristallmikrovåg; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Ionic liquids (ILs) present new approaches for controlling interactions at the solid-liquid interface. ILs are defined as liquids consisting of bulky and asymmetric ions, with a melting point below 373 K. Owing to their amphiphilic character they are powerful solvents but also possess other interesting properties. LÄS MER

  3. 3. High Order Cut Finite Element Methods for Wave Equations

    Författare :Simon Sticko; Gunilla Kreiss; Mats G. Larson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cut finite element; Wave equation; Immersed; Fictitious domain; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis considers wave propagation problems solved using finite element methods where a boundary or interface of the domain is not aligned with the computational mesh. Such methods are usually referred to as cut or immersed methods. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On boundary value problems for intracellular subdiffusion and signaling pathways, and for geometric flows

    Författare :Tobias Gebäck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boundary value problems; diffusion-reaction equations; signaling pathways; anomalous diffusion; pseudo-differential equations; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; immersed interface method; Boolean grids; mean curvature flow; pseudo-differential equations; boundary value problams; flourescence correlation spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The main part of this thesis concerns mathematical models for diffusion of proteins inside cells, including reactions between the proteins. Initially, such models are applied to describe signaling pathways in yeast cells, and the properties of the model are studied, especially in relation to models that do not include diffusion. LÄS MER
