  1. 6. Investigations of Leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain-proteins 1 and 2 (LRIG1 and LRIG2) and their genes in cancer

    Författare :Mahmood Faraz; Håkan Hedman; Roger Henriksson; Rolf Bjerkvig; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LRIG1; LRIG2; PDGFR; glioma; interactome; breast cancer; prognosis; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The mammalian leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains (LRIG) gene family consists of three different members, LRIG1, LRIG2, and LRIG3. These genes are expressed in all human and mouse tissues analyzed to date. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Behavioural and neurochemical effects and changes in gene expression in inflammatory and neuropathic pain

    Författare :Eva Schött; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Inflammatory pain; neuropathic pain; pain-related behaviour; weight bearing; preemptive analgesia; immediate early genes; substance P; dynorphin; cholecystokinin; microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic pain is a common clinical problem, which causes great suffering, and there is a great need for better analgesic drugs and strategies to counteract the transition of acute pain into chronic pain states. In studies of neurochemical mechanisms in animal models of chronic pain it is important to study also the development of spontaneous pain-related behaviour and sensory abnormalities (i. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Striatal adenosine A2A receptors

    Författare :Per Svenningsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :caffeine; adenosine; A2A receptors; dopamine receptors; striatum; basal ganglia; immediate early genes; c-fos; NGFI-A; DARPP-32; in situ hybridization;

    Sammanfattning : The nucleoside adenosine exerts a modulatory action in the central nervous system by activating G-protein coupled receptors. Four such receptors are cloned and pharmacologically characterized: A1, A2A, A2B and A3. Caffeine, the most widely consumed psychostimulant, acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist predominantly on the first two. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Neurobiological basis of the nicotine withdrawal reaction : an experimental analysis

    Författare :Bengt E Hildebrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :rat; nicotine; nicotine withdrawal; behavior; locomotor activity; microdialysis; intracerebral injections; mesolimbocortical; dopamine; ventral tegmental area; nucleus accumbens; amygdala; immediate-early genes; c-fos;

    Sammanfattning : The mesolimbocortical dopamine (DA) system is pivotal for the mediation of the reinforcing effects of many dependence-producing drugs. It consists of cell bodies in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) that project to e.g. the nucleus accumbens (NAC), the central nucleus of amygdala (CNA) and the medial prefrontal cortex. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Gluco- and mineralocorticoid receptor regulation of regional brain neurotrophism

    Författare :Anita Christiane Hansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurotrophins; BDNF; NT-3; bFGF; FGF receptor; immediate early genes; c-fos; antisense oligodeoxynucleotides; adrenalectomy; stress; glucocorticoids; mineralocorticoids; glucocorticoid receptor; mineralocorticoid; receptor in situ hybridization.;

    Sammanfattning : Gluco- and mineralocorticoid hormones exert powerful actions on brain function and are important in the mediation of the stress response and the survival of hippocampal neurons. The aim of this thesis was to study the influence of glucocorticoid (GR)/mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) actions on brain neurotrophism including analyses of immediate early genes (IEGs) and of feedback responses on GR and/or MR.
