    Sammanfattning : This study has investigated the impact of presynaptic factors on the development of dyskinesia during chronic L-DOPA treatment in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The mechanisms causing dyskinesia are not completely understood but have been proposed to involve changes in gene and protein expression in striatal neurons, which are the main target of dopamine (DA) projections from the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc).     Sammanfattning : Ovarian steroid hormones are known to produce several different effects in the brain. In addition to their role in gonadotropin release, ovulation and sexual behaviour they also seem to affect mood and emotions, as shown in women with the premenstrual tension syndrome.     Sammanfattning : Different mechanisms exist in the mammalian testis to protect the germ cells from autoimmune attack, invading microbes, and xenobiotic induced toxicity, which would otherwise be deleterious to the preservation of fertility. The general aim of this thesis was to study these testicular defence mechanisms, including the structural building blocks of the blood– testis barrier (BTB), antimicrobial peptides, proinflammatory cytokines and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter proteins.
