  1. 11. Inflammatory response in the immature brainafter hypoxia-ischemia. Application of microarray and transgenic technology

    Författare :Maj Hedtjärn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; neonatal; brain; inflammation; cytokine; IL-1; IL-18; microglia; ; gene; microarray;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury remains a common problem encountered during theneonatal period, and it is a major cause of perinatal mortality and long term neurologicalimpairments. After HI, an inflammatory reaction is elicited in the brain, which is believedto contribute to the secondary progression of brain injury. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Involvement of the immune system in phytohaemagglutinin-induced structural and functional precocious maturation of the gut in young rats

    Författare :Olena Prykhodko; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytokines; mucosa; development; Gastrointestinal tract; mammals; immune system; T-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Mammals are born with an immature gastrointestinal (GI) tract that allows the uptake of the specific nutrients and bioactive macromolecules in the milk, especially the protecting maternal antibodies. Eventually during weaning, the intake of milk decreases while that of solid food increases, and the GI system undergoes prominent structural and functional changes adapting the young this dietary change. 3. 13. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Författare :Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Sammanfattning : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 4. 14. Preservation of male fertility in childhood acute leukemia : an experimental study addressing novel strategies and putative risks

    Författare :Mi Hou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Although treatment of cancer in young boys with cytotoxic agents has long been known to cause infertility in the survivors, the mechanisms underlying drug-induced damage to the immature testis remain unclear. A number of clinical issues associated with transplantation of testicular germ cells or tissues also require clarification. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Parietal cell regeneration in rat gastric mucosal wounds : a quantitative light and electron microscopical study

    Författare :Håkan Blom; Herbert Helander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rat; gastric mucosa; gastric wounds; parietal cells; regeneration; pyloroplasty; truncal vagotomy; antrectomy; pentagastrin; cimetidine; carbacholine; stereology; light microscopy; electron microscopy; pH-studies;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the study were to obtain a method with which it would be possible to produce standardized wounds in the gastric mucosa, and to follow the regeneration of the acid producing parietal cells in those lesions during different experimental conditions. Quantitative methods applied to light and electron microscopy were used. LÄS MER
