16. Topological states of matter in low dimensions
Sammanfattning : A central theme in condensed matter physics is the classification and characterization of states of matter. In the recent decades, it has become evident that there exists a large class of quantum mechanical systems that must be classified according to properties deeply rooted in the mathematical field of topology, rather than in terms of which symmetries they break. 17. Image dipoles and polarons in organic semiconductors
Sammanfattning : The rapid development of organic electronics depends on the synthesis of new π-conjugated molecules/polymers and the exploration of fundamental physics. However, most of the efforts have been concentrated on the former, leading to a lack of thorough understanding of many important concepts, which will become the ultimate limiting factor for overall performance and applications. 18. Robust Platforms for Superconductivity : Disorder Robustness and Topological Density of States Peaks
Sammanfattning : We explore the connection between robust material platforms for superconductivity and the modern condensed matter physics paradigms of two-dimensional materials, topological states of matter, and odd-frequency superconductivity. Specifically, the recent discoveries of gapless topological matter and truly two-dimensional materials with graphene have greatly expanded the class of materials for which topology produces large, robust, even singular, density of states (DOS) peaks in the electronic structure that in turn are highly susceptible to new ordered states of matter, including superconductivity. 19. On the Ethics of External States in Peacebuilding : A Critical Study of Justification
Sammanfattning : Even the most obvious actions require justification. The need for justification of peacebuilding involvements is always present. This thesis argues that justification is particularly needed when there is a prevalent power asymmetry between an external state and a host community. LÄS MER
20. Dynamics of excited electronic states in functional materials
Sammanfattning : Non-equilibrium processes involving excited electron states are very common in nature. This work summarizes some of the theoretical developments available to study them in finite and ex-tended systems. LÄS MER
