  1. 1. Ocean circulation in the Amundsen Sea, West Antarctica

    Författare :Ola Kalén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ocean; currents; icebergs; remote sensing; ocean model;

    Sammanfattning : The increase of mass loss from the Antarctic Ice Sheet is a significant contribution to global sea level rise. The most rapid changes are occurring in the Amundsen Sea area, where the thinning of the floating glaciers is assumed to be driven by the ocean. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A multimethod approach to dating Quaternary sediments from the Arctic Ocean

    Författare :Gabriel West; Matthew O'Regan; Darrell Kaufman; Helena Alexanderson; Guillaume St-Onge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean; Amino Acid Geochronology; Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating; Palaeomagnetism; maringeologi; Marine Geology;

    Sammanfattning : The marine sedimentary environment in the polar regions is different from the rest of the world’s oceans, as it is greatly influenced by the cryosphere. In the Arctic, sea ice and icebergs can transport vast amounts of sediments, delivered by extensive fluvial systems from the surrounding continents, which have been shaped by the waxing and waning of large terrestrial ice sheets during the Quaternary period. 3. 3. Substrate control of community composition and functional adaptation in marine bacterioplankton

    Författare :Julie Dinasquet; Lasse Riemann; Edward F. DeLong; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbial ecology; bacterioplankton; community composition; functional adaptation; dissolved organic carbon; bottom-up and top down factors; ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi; food-webs; Southern-Ocean; Antarctica; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : A drop of sea-water is teeming with a million of bacteria, on which pelagic food-webs and biogeochemical cycles depend. These bacteria thrive on a wide range of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) compounds produced through biotic and abiotic processes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Glacier-Ocean Interactions in the Arctic : Contemporary calving and frontal melt from field observations, remote sensing, and numerical modelling

    Författare :Felicity Alice Holmes; Nina Kirchner; Benedict T. I. Reinardy; Riko Noormets; Jason Briner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glacier-ocean interactions; Arctic; Calving; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Globally, glaciers are losing mass as a result of the changing climate, with this mass loss having a considerable societal impact through rising sea levels. Glaciers which terminate in the oceans are particularly vulnerable to changing external conditions as a result of high sensitivity at their marine margins. LÄS MER
