6. Light conditions in seasonally ice-covered waters : within the Baltic Sea region
Sammanfattning : Seasonal ice cover is a major driver of seasonality in aquatic ecosystems in the Baltic Sea region. Ice cover influences the underwater light conditions directly by limiting the light transfer and indirectly by modifying the mixing and circulation under the ice. LÄS MER
7. Efficient commuter craft for urban waterborne public transportation
Sammanfattning : There has been a recent surge in interest in waterborne public transportation (WPT). Publictransport providers (PTP) are seeing its potential in complementing the existing transportnetwork and alleviating urban traffic congestion and pollution. But the adoption of WPTtoday is challenging due to a series of technical and implementation challenges. LÄS MER
8. Mechanisms for the Influence from Ice Nucleus Aerosols on Clouds and their Indirect Effects: Cloud Modelling
Sammanfattning : The role of multiple groups of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAPs) as ice nucleating particles (INPs), and of ice formation processes such as time-dependent freezing of various INPs, and various secondary ice production(SIP) mechanisms in overall ice concentration has been evaluated in a range of cloud systems by simulating them numerically with the state-of-the-art ‘Aerosol-Cloud’ (AC) model in a 3D mesoscale domain. Also, the mechanismsof aerosol indirect effects (AIEs) arising from anthropogenic INPs, and the responses to these AIEs from time-dependent INP freezing and SIP processes are investigated in the simulated clouds. 9. Brash Ice and Level Ice Growth, Effects of Snow
Sammanfattning : Brash ice occurs due to frequent navigation in ice-infested waters, typically along established navigation tracks regularly maintained by icebreakers and harbors. The accumulation and consolidation of brash ice between two ship passages are influenced by meteorological factors including the cumulative freezing air temperatures, and the mechanical processes such as ice-breaking due to ship passages. 10. A Database of Microwave Single Scattering Properties of Ice Hydrometeors
Sammanfattning : Microwave remote sensing by satellites is important for global observations of ice hydrometeors. Interpretation of the measurements requires sufficiently accurate knowledge of hydrometeors’ interaction with photons, i.e. article scattering and absorption. LÄS MER
