  1. 1. Ice Formwork : The Rationale and Potential of Ice-Based Moulding Systems  for the Production of Complex-Geometry  Precast Concrete

    Författare :Vasily Sitnikov; Oliver Tessmann; Tim Ainsworth Anstey; Harald Kloft; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ice Formwork; High-Performance Concrete; Digital Fabrication; Refrigeration; Embodied Energy; Grey energy; Carbon Footprint.; Architectural Technology; Arkitekturteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis analyses and makes proposals about adapting the poten-tial of digital means of production to the needs of the concrete industry. More precisely, it aims at fostering the development of sustainable material cycles and the innovation in manufacturing methods in the field of architectural and structural design of ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). 2. 2. Breaking the ice : effects of ice formation and winter floods on vegetation along streams

    Författare :Lovisa Lind; Christer Nilsson; Christine Weber; Michael Scott; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anchor ice; climate change; in-stream; riparian; river ice; streams; vegetation;

    Sammanfattning : Streams in cold regions are characterized by unique hydrological processes that control flow regime and water levels. One of the most important processes is the formation, growth and melting of different types of ice in and around the stream channel during winter. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Remote sensing of supra-glacial lakes on the west Greenland Ice Sheet

    Författare :A. Malin Johansson; Ian A. Brown; Peter Jansson; Johan Kleman; Andreas Ahlstrøm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supra-glacial lakes; Greenland Ice Sheet; Ice melting; Remote sensing; SAR; MODIS; Time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice sheet in the northern hemisphere. Ongoing melting of the ice sheet, resulting in increased mass loss relative to the longer term trend, has raised concerns about the stability of the ice sheet. Melt water generated at the surface is temporarily stored in supra-glacial lakes on the ice sheet. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dead-Ice Under Different Climate Conditions: Processes, Landforms, Sediments and Melt Rates in Iceland and Svalbard

    Författare :Anders Schomacker; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; glacier; dead-ice; surge; ice-cored; Little Ice Age; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; Svalbard; Iceland; Sedimentology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Sedimentologi; Physical geography; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; climatology;

    Sammanfattning : Modern dead-ice environments in the glacier forefields of Brúarjökull, Iceland and Holmströmbreen, Svalbard were investigated with focus on landform and sediment genesis, as well as quantification of melting. Field monitoring and studies of multi-temporal aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) provided data for the melting quantification. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Towards Single Molecule Imaging - Understanding Structural Transitions Using Ultrafast X-ray Sources and Computer Simulations

    Författare :Carl Caleman; Janos Hajdu; Richard Neutze; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular biophysics; XFEL; Ultrafast Melting; InSb; Molecular Dynamics; Water Cluster; Evaporation; Secondary Electron; Photo-cathode; Electron Scattering; Energy Loss Function; Single Particle Imaging; X-ray Diffraction; Water; Ice; KI; CsI; Molekylär biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : X-ray lasers bring us into a new world in photon science by delivering extraordinarily intense beams of x-rays in very short bursts that can be more than ten billion times brighter than pulses from other x-ray sources. These lasers find applications in sciences ranging from astrophysics to structural biology, and could allow us to obtain images of single macromolecules when these are injected into the x-ray beam.
