  1. 1. Hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha : dependent and independent regulation of hematopoietic stem cells and leukemia

    Författare :Camilla Halvarsson; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Mikael Sigvardsson; Kamil Kranc; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has studied the role of low oxygen levels, or hypoxia, in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and how, at the molecular level, it regulates stem cell maintenance and protects against oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS). HSCs reside within the bone marrow in specific niches created by a unique vascularized environment, which is suggested to be hypoxic and crucial for HSCs by maintaining a quiescent state of cell cycle and by redirecting metabolism away from the mitochondria to glycolysis. 2. 2. Translational Aspects of Erythropoietin Receptor and Hypoxia-Inducible Factors in Breast Cancer

    Författare :Anna-Maria Larsson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; Anemia; Hypoxia; Erythropoietin EPO ; EPO receptor EPOR ; Estrogen Receptor ER ; Hypoxia-Inducible Factors HIFs ; Tamoxifen Response; Proliferation;

    Sammanfattning : The main function of erythropoietin (EPO) is in hematopoiesis where EPO stimulates increased proliferation, survival and differentiation of erythrocytic precursors in response to hypoxia. The EPO effect is mediated via binding to the EPO receptor (EPOR), which induces activation of different intracellular signaling pathways. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Transcriptional Regulation by Hypoxia-Inducible Factors in Tumor Cells

    Författare :Tobias Löfstedt; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancerology; oncology; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; Biomedical sciences; MXI1; ID2; differentiation; HIF; hypoxia; transcription; cancer; neuroblastoma; Cytologi; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a major cause of human morbidity and mortality, and the risk of developing cancer is about one in three life times. Neuroblastoma is the most common extra-cranial solid tumor among children and arises from early sympathetic nervous system (SNS) cells arrested in their development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hypoxia-Inducible Factors in Tumor Cell Differentiation and Tumor Vascularization

    Författare :Alexander Pietras; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIF-2alpha; cancer; notch; angiogenesis; tumor-initiating cells; hypoxia; neuroblastoma; differentiation;

    Sammanfattning : Mammalian cells, including tumor cells, adapt to hypoxia via stabilization of two transcription factors - Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1alpha and HIF-2alpha. Among other consequences, hypoxia is a main driving force behind angiogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hypoxia inducible factor 1alpha : molecular mechanisms of regulation

    Författare :William J Wilson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1alpha (HIF-1alpha) is an important protein in the homeostatic control of genes in response to low oxygen, or hypoxia. It is thus also a key factor in the regulation of angiogenesis in response to hypoxia, including induction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene expression. LÄS MER
