  1. 21. Gene-environment interactions between HPA axis regulatory genes and stressful life events in suicide attempts

    Författare :Yair Jacob Ben-Efraim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Suicide is a leading cause of death. In the future, treatment for suicidal behavior, as well as public health prevention and/or intervention efforts, may be guided by genetic epidemiology. This research is informed by biological alterations which have been previously observed in suicidal behavior. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Individual glucocorticoid sensitivity in the human

    Författare :Urban Knutsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis; cortisol; dexamethasone suppression test; adrenocorticotropin stimulation test; glucocorticoid receptor mRNA; Metallothionein mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : The expanding use of inhaled and intranasal glucocorticoid (Gc) preparations for treatment of mild-to-moderate asthma and allergic rhinitis has in the last decade greatly increased the number of adults and children chronically exposed to exogenous glucocorticoids. In general, current topical glucocorticoid therapies appear to be well tolerated. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Endocrine aspects of obesity and weight reduction by bariatric surgery : with special emphasis on beta cell function

    Författare :Marie Guldstrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Obesity; weight reduction; b ariatric surgery; insulin; glucagon; type 2 diabetes; insulin sensitivity; HPA axis; autonomic nervous system ANS ; cognitive functions; proinsulin; GIP; GLP-1; IGFBP- 1; diazoxide;

    Sammanfattning : Severe obesity is the most predictive acquired risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. Bariatric surgery induces marked weight loss and reverses the diabetic state significantly. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Psychobiological responses in women with regional or widespread musculoskeletal pain conditions

    Författare :Roberto Riva; Petra Lindfors; Steven J. Linton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; fibromyalgia; shoulder and neck pain; salivary cortisol; urinary catecholamines; cardiovascular responses; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are very common. Regional chronic shoulder and neck pain (SNP) and widespread chronic pain due to fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) are examples of MSDs characterized by altered physiology of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
