1. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations
Sammanfattning : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 2. Outcomes and Implications of Nasal Measurements in Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Sammanfattning : BackgroundObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent disorder and symptoms of nasal obstruction are highly prevalent in OSA. Treatment of nasal obstruction in OSA patients has shown modest and variable outcomes in reducing the apnea hypopnea index (AHI), but significant improvements in other indicators, such as sleep quality and daytime sleepiness as well as reductions in arousals have been observed. 3. Treatment of obstructive sleep apnea with a mandibular advancement device
Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, hypertension and an increased risk of early death. The aims of the present studies were to evaluate the short-term and longterm effects on sleep apnea and the tolerability of a one-piece, individually- designed mandibular advancement device. 4. Snoring and Sleep Apnea in Women : Risk Factors, Signs and Consequences
Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by snoring, apneas and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Obesity is a risk factor for snoring and sleep apnea, but data on other factors in relation to obesity are ambiguous. Symptoms of sleep apnea in women have not been fully elucidated. LÄS MER
5. Sleep disordered breathing : Natural evolution and metabolism
Sammanfattning : Sleep disordered breathing is manifested by snoring and repeated episodes of apneas and hypopneas. The induced hypoxia and sleep fragmentation are thought to be responsible for many metabolic disturbances. In 1984, 3,201 men aged 30 to 69 answered a questionnaire on snoring, sleep disorders and somatic diseases. In 1994, 2,668 of the survivors (89. LÄS MER
