  1. 1. Posture and brain function in dementia. A study with special reference to orthostatic hypotension

    Författare :Ulla Passant; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; falls and fractures.; white matter disease; hypoperfusion; frontal lobes; regional cerebral blood flow; blood pressure; orthostatic hypotension; Organic dementia; normal subjects; Psychiatry; clinical psychology; psychosomatics; Psykiatri; klinisk psykologi; psykosomatik;

    Sammanfattning : Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is believed to be an important cause of cerebral hypoperfusion, leading to chronic fatigue, blurred vision, unsteadiness, dizziness and sometimes syncope. It may also result in episodes of confusion, falls and fractures. The coupling between OH and organic dementia is not clear. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Microcirculation in skeletal muscle during hypoperfusion : An experimental study regarding some psysiological and pharmacological factors influencing blood flow and oxygen pressure distributions

    Författare :Urban Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular bed in skeletal muscle plays an important role in the regulation of the systemic circulation. The present study was undertaken to investigate how capillary blood flow and oxygenation in skeletal muscle are affected by: a) a reduction in the levels of respiratory gases in blood, hypocapnia or hypoxia, and b) the interaction of anesthetics (pentobarbital, propofol, ketamine) during hemorrhage, and c) hypotension induced pharmacologically by adenosine, sodium nitroprusside or acetylcholine. 3. 3. Nitric oxide production by the intestinal mucosa during hypoperfusion

    Författare :Johan Snygg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; intestinal epithelium; hemorrhagic shock; cardiac tamponade; septic shock; lower body negative pressure; splanchnic circulation; substrate; laser Doppler;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on the concept that gastrointestinal blood hypoperfusion is a common phenomenon associated with critical illness. Furthermore, the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is proposed to be initiated by gastrointestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction, allowing intestinal luminal contents to penetrate into the tissue and activate a systemic inflammatory response. 4. 4. Intra-abdominal Hypertension and Colonic Hypoperfusion after Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair

    Författare :Khatereh Djavani Gidlund; Martin Björck; Anders Wanhainen; Johan Valtysson; Martin Malina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abdominal aneurysm; Intra-abdomnial hypertension; Abdominal compartment syndrome; Colonic ischaemia; Colonic hypotension; Intra-abdominal pressure; rupture abdominal aortic aneurysm; Vascular surgery; Kärlkirurgi; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Colonic ischaemia (CI), Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) are devastating complications after abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery. The aims of this thesis were to study the incidence and clinical consequences of IAH/ACS and the association between CI and intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) among patients undergoing OR for ruptured AAA (rAAA), to compare extraluminal pHi monitoring, with standard intra-luminal monitoring among patients operated on for AAA, and to study the frequency and clinical consequences of IAH/ACS after endovascular repair (EVAR) for rAAA. 5. 5. MRI and SPECT neuroimaging in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease

    Författare :Per Julin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns measurements of regional brain volumes using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and of regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) using Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) in patients investigated for suspected dementia. In the first study (I), visually rated MRI-, SPECT and EEG-pathology were compared between patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and patients with Frontal Lobe Dementia (FLD). LÄS MER
