  1. 1. Hypoxic Blackout in Serial Freediving – Protective Mechanisms and Risk Factors

    Författare :Frank Pernett; Erika Schagatay; Glenn Björklund; Anton Westman; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breath-hold diving; diving response; hyperventilation; hypoxia; oxygen saturation; oxygen stores; pulse oximetry; sonography; splenic contraction.;

    Sammanfattning : Breath-hold diving or freediving exposes the body to stressors such as low oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels in the blood, increased hydrostatic pressure, and cold. The reduction in blood oxygen levels is considered a primary factor for loss of consciousness while diving. This is known as hypoxic blackout. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Patients with asthma-like symptoms but negative asthma tests and patients with bronchial asthma

    Författare :Karin Ringsberg; Töres Theorell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Asthma-like symptoms; bronchial asthma; coping; dyspnoea; education; hyperventilation; lung function; physical exercise; quality of life; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with asthma-like symptoms but with negative results in asthma tests have recently been identified. The symptoms are mainly triggered by strong odours, physical exercise and mental stress. These patients are often misdiagnosed and mistreated. They mostly have to find coping strategies by themselves. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Optimizing and evaluation of a methacholine provocation test : with application in occupational research

    Författare :Britt-Marie Sundblad; Bengt-Eric Skoogh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Airway responsiveness; methacholine provocation; nitric oxide; eucapnic hyperventilation; organic dust; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : We have developed a methacholine provocation method, which detects bronchial responsiveness in more than 80% of healthy subjects. The method enables us to detect differences in bronchial responsiveness within the normal range. With this method FEV1 and Gaw had similar sensitivity in detecting small differences in bronchial responsiveness. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aspects on Mechanisms, Treatment and Outcome in Severe Traumatic Brain Injury

    Författare :Teodor Svedung Wettervik; Anders Lewén; Per Enblad; Elham Rostami; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoregulation; clinical outcome; energy metabolism; multimodality monitoring; neurointensive-care; traumatic brain injury; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause for mortality and morbidity worldwide. The primary injury has great impact on patient outcome and cannot be cured, but attentive neurointensive care (NIC) may reduce detrimental secondary brain injuries and is the focus of this thesis.
