11. Bronchial hyperresponsiveness of ß-adrenoceptor agonists and antagonists in guinea pig airways
Sammanfattning : Asthma is one of the most common diseases in the industrialised countries. The underlying mechanisms are complex and still not fully understood although inflammation of the airways plays an important role. LÄS MER
12. Asthma : Respiratory Symptoms, Atopy and Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness in Young Adults in Estonia and Sweden
Sammanfattning : Morbidity of asthma has increased over the world. The reasons for this increase have remained unclear. Studies in children have reported considerable East-West difference in the prevalence of atopy and respiratory allergies. LÄS MER
13. Nasal and bronchial testing as well as treatment of patients with airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation focusing on the united airway concept
Sammanfattning : Allergic and non-allergic rhinitis and asthma is a global health problem on the increase that causes major illness and disability worldwide, and also results in a large financial burden on society. This thesis contains six papers, based on four different clinical studies on humans with allergic as well as non-allergic airways inflammation, such as neutrophil inflammation caused by exposure to swine dust, as well as chronic rhinosinusitis and concomitant asthma with and without NSAID intolerance. 14. Nasal and bronchial airway reactivity in allergic and non allergic airway inflammation
Sammanfattning : In allergic or asthmatic airways disease, upper and lower airways show a uniform eosinophilic inflammation of the mucosa, and bronchial hyperreactivity is a common finding. To study the co- variation of mucosal reactivity in upper and lower airways, histamine challenges of both sites were performed in a group of patients with allergic rhinitis during non-season. LÄS MER
15. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER
