    Författare :Ellinor Holmberg; Torbjörn Bäckström; Bo Söderpalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allopregnanolone; neurosteroid; GABA; GABAA receptor; food intake; weight gain; obesity; hyperphagia; diurnal rhythm; schedule feeding; high fat diet; electrophysiology; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Obesity is currently one of the major causes of ill health and it is clear that overeatingis the cause of obesity. However, the actions of many endogenous factors that contribute to overeating are still not well understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Endocrine and metabolic aspects of adult Prader Willi syndrome with special emphasis on the effect of growth hormone treatment

    Författare :Charlotte Höybye; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Prader Willi syndrome; adults; obesity; GH; IGF-I; psycho-social functioning; GH treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Prader Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a complex genetic disorder characterized by muscular hypotonia, hyperphagia, obesity and behavioural problems. Partial growth hormone (GH) deficiency and hypogonadism are common. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Hypothyroidism caused by a mutant thyroid hormone receptor alpha1 : consequences for development and physiology

    Författare :Maria Sjögren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lack of sufficient thyroid hormone during pregnancy and early postnatal development results in profound mental retardation and motor deficits whereas altered thyroid status in the adult is associated with disturbed metabolic homeostasis and impaired cardiac function. Thyroid hormone mediates its effects through the distinct thyroid hormone receptors (TR) TRalpha1 and TRbeta1-2, which are ligand-modulated transcription factors that regulate gene expression both in the presence and absence of hormone. 4. 4. Comorbidity and mortality in Prader-Willi syndrome

    Författare :Hasanain Shukur; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a multisymptomatic, rare, genetic, disorder, due to lack of the expression of paternal genes in the q11-q13 region of chromosome 15. The main characteristics of PWS are muscular hypotonia, hyperphagia, obesity, behavioral problems, cognitive disabilities, and endocrine deficiencies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of HMG-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) and statin medication in the Central Nervous System : Cognitive Functions, Metabolism, Feeding and Sleep Behaviour

    Författare :Ahmed Alsehli; Helgi B. Schiöth; Michael J. Williams; Heinrich Dircksen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Statin; cardiovascular disease; HMGCR; PCSK9; sleep; insomnia; circadian; Chronotype; feeding;

    Sammanfattning : Millions of people are currently on statin medications (HMGCR inhibitors) to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Despite considerable central nervous system expression, little is known about HMGCR function in the brain. LÄS MER
