  1. 1. Evaluation of nasal speech : a study of assessments by speech-language pathologists, untrained listeners and nasometry

    Författare :Karin Brunnegård; Jan van Doorn; Anette Lohmander; Fiona Gibbon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypernasality; auditory perceptual evaluation; reliability; nasometer; nasalance; Logopedics and phoniatrics; Logopedi och foniatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive nasal resonance in speech (hypernasality) is a disorder which may have negative communicative and social consequences for the speaker. Excessive nasal resonance is often associated with cleft lip and palate, velopharyngeal impairment, dysarthria or hearing impairment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aerodynamic assessment of velopharyngeal function in speech

    Författare :Hans Dotevall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Speech production measurements; speech aerodynamics; velopharyngeal function; nasal airflow; perceptual speech evaluation; hypernasality; cleft palate speech; sleep disordered breathing; snoring; sleep apnea;

    Sammanfattning : Velopharyngeal function in speech was assessed by aerodynamic techniques, which were developed and tested. Temporal and dynamic characteristics of the nasal airflow pattern during the velopharyngeal closing phase in speech were studied in different patient groups. Its validity in relation to listener's perceptual evaluation of speech was analyzed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Speech and velopharyngeal function in patients with hypernasality : an investigation utilizing listener judgments, instrumental analysis (NORAM), multiview videoradiography and nasopharyngoscopy

    Författare :Jonas Karling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Sammanfattning : This investigation evaluated how velopharyngeal function and speech deficiencies related to velo pharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) were influenced by a) type of cleft, b) site and size of oronasal fistulas and c) pharyngeal flaps. In addition, the accelerometric device, NORAM was evaluated. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Body dimensions of 2,936 newborns with cleft lip/palate (CLP) were compared with 2,031,140 singleton newborns between 1973 to 1992. The risk of cleft development was found to be associated with intra-uterine growth retardation - the more severe the cleft, the stronger the association. LÄS MER
