1. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. LÄS MER
2. Non-geological hydrogen storage for fossil-free steelmaking
Sammanfattning : In the last half-century, global steel use has increased more than threefold and further growth is expected, particularly in developing economies. However, steelmaking is currently responsible for 7% of the global net carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and any substantial further optimization of existing processes that utilize fossil fuels for iron ore reduction is infeasible. 3. Fundamental Studies Related to Gaseous Reduction of Iron Oxide
Sammanfattning : The demands for increasing the efficiency and lowering the environmental effects in iron and steelmaking industries have given rise to interests in application of direct reduction (DR) processes for production of iron by different gases. These advancements require comprehensive models for better control of the process conditions and the product properties. LÄS MER
4. The low-carbon steel industry - Interactions between the hydrogen direct reduction of steel and the electricity system
Sammanfattning : The European steel industry must achieve deep reductions in CO2 emissions to meet the targets set out in the Paris Agreement. Options for reducing CO2 emissions include electrification, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the use of biomass. LÄS MER
5. Fermentative hydrogen and methane productions using membrane bioreactors
Sammanfattning : The role of energy as a stimulant for economic growth and environmental sustainabilityof any nation has made the focus on green fuels, including fermentative hydrogen (bioH2) andmethane (bioCH4), to be a priority for the World’s policy makers. Nigeria, as the most populousAfrican country, with worsening energy crisis, can benefit from the introduction of the bioH2 andbioCH4 technologies into the country’s energy mix, since such technologies have the potential ofgenerating energy from organic wastes such as fruit waste.
