  1. 1. Late Holocene spatiotemporal hydroclimatic variability over Fennoscandia inferred from tree-rings

    Författare :Kristina Seftigen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tree-rings; Fennoscandia; hydroclimate; SPEI; SPI; ring-width; maximum latewood density; stable isotopes; field reconstruction; point-by-point regression;

    Sammanfattning : There is a broad scientific consensus that the global climate is changing, and that human activity is a significant factor contributing to the change. The response of the hydrological cycle to the warming is far reaching, including increases in the intensification and frequency of extreme hydroclimatological events. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene

    Författare :Sandra Raúl Sitoe; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; John Compton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Africa; Limpopo River floodplain; flooding event; sea-level change; climate change; diatoms; phytoliths; mineral magnetics; grain-size; radiocarbon dating; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 3. 3. A combined carbon and hydrogen isotope approach to reconstruct the SE Asian paleomonsoon : Impacts on the Angkor Civilization and links to paleolimnology

    Författare :Kweku Kyei Afrifa Yamoah; Rienk Smittenberg; Sarah Feakins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene; summer monsoon; biomarkers; hydrogen isotopes; lake sediment; peat; Thailand; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Changes in monsoon patterns not only affect ecosystems and societies but also the global climate system in terms of heat energy and humidity transfer from the equator to higher latitudes. However, understanding the mechanisms that drive monsoon variability on longer timescales remains a challenge, partly due to sparse paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic data. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Forest-savanna transitions: Understanding adaptation and resilience of the tropical forest ecosystems using remote sensing

    Författare :Chandrakant Singh; Ingo Fetzer; Lan Wang-Erlandsson; Ruud van der Ent; Stefano Manzoni; Udita Sanga; Vivian Ribeiro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution; Hydrology; hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Climate and deforestation-induced changes in precipitation drive tropical forest-savanna transitions. However, precipitation alone provides a superficial understanding of the underlying mechanism behind these transitions. This is because our knowledge of how vegetation responds to changes in hydroclimate is fragmented. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantifying hydroclimatic change impacts on infectious diseases : Signals and geographies from local to global scale

    Författare :Yan Ma; Georgia Destouni; Zahra Kalantari; Arvid Bring; Rita Colwell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydroclimatic change; infectious diseases; climate sensitivity; disease geography; quantitative study; scoping review; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Hydroclimatic change has the potential to directly or indirectly increase the occurrence and expand or shift the geographical range of infectious diseases. This may pose particular threats in the Nordic-Arctic Region, where warming is more rapid than in other parts of the world, but the climate sensitivities of various infectious diseases still remain to be investigated in this and other regions.
