21. The involvement of the TNF-alpha system in skeletal muscle in response to marked overuse
Sammanfattning : Painful conditions having the origin within the musculoskeletal system is a common cause for people to seek medical care. Between 20-40% of all visits to the primal care in Sweden are coupled to pain from the musculoskeletal system. Muscle pain and impaired muscle function can be caused by muscles being repetitively overused and/or via heavy load. LÄS MER
22. CYTOGENETIC AND MOLECULAR GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF LIPOMAS
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to study cytogenetic and molecular genetic aberrations in lipomas. For this purpose, chromosome banding analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), as well as high resolution single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)–arrays were used to identify recurrent chromosomal aberrations in lipomas. 23. Exploring the transcriptional space
Sammanfattning : Transcriptomics promises biological insight into gene regulation, cell diversity, and mechanistic understanding of dysfunction. Driven by technological advancements in sequencing technologies, the field has witnessed an exponential growth in data output. Not only has the amount of raw data increased tremendously but it’s granularity as well. LÄS MER
24. Genital human papillomaviruses. Studies of their occurrence, type spectrum and expression
Sammanfattning : The occurrence of genital human papillomavirus infection was determined in different categories of patients by means of PCR. In high proportion of young women attending an adolescent clinic, the presence of HPV DNA was demonstrated in simultaneously urethral and cervical samples, suggesting that genital HPV infections are often multifocal. 25. Expression of Islet Amyloid Polypeptide - Localization and regulation in the pancreatic islets, gastrointestinal tract and sensory nervous system
Sammanfattning : Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP; also named ”amylin”) is a member of the calcitonin superfamily of peptides, displaying the closest structural relationship to the neuropeptide calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). It is expressed in islet beta-cells and forms islet amyloid in type 2 diabetic patients. LÄS MER
