1. Hopeful monsters: The role of hybrids in adaptation : The impact of hybridisation and genetic diversity on adaptation to stressful and novel environments
Sammanfattning : Adaptation to novel environments can only occur if natural selection has the raw material to act upon. But small, endangered populations are often genetically depleted, and the acquisition of beneficial de novo mutations often takes too long when population face quick and extreme environmental change. Sammanfattning : Evolutionary relationships among species have in recent years been inferred using DNA sequences from specific genes and represented by tree diagrams (phylogenies). However, the signal contained in different genes can produce conflicting sets of relationships – i.e., gene tree incongruence. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Several species of fish show a symbiotic cleaning behaviour, where they assist other species by feeding and removing dead skin or ectoparasites. Some of these cleaner fish species are used as a low-cost parasite control in salmon aquaculture, often considered to be more environmentally friendly than other delousing methods. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Chinese art of the 1990s responded to the many changes in the environment and thereby to changes in personal lives. Many Chinese artists of the time were therefore concerned with their selves and their works reveal explorations of personal identity. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Standardisation of professional work is a major policy concern to ensure quality and efficiency of services and a number of hospitals are now focusing on the use of clinical pathways as an important tool to standardise their work. This study sheds light on the processes set in motion when notions of standardisation meet local practice. LÄS MER
