21. Tailored cellulosic materials by physical adsorption of polyelectrolytes
Sammanfattning : The growing interest in using bio-based resources has made forest-based cellulose (used as fibre and nanofibril building elements) a good candidate for the development of new materials. In order to be used in commercial applications, cellulose must however be processed and/or functionalized to provide the final material with specific properties. LÄS MER
22. Tailoring fibre and paper properties using physical adsorption of polyelectrolytes
Sammanfattning : The adsorption of polyelectrolytes, both as monolayers and as multilayers, was investigated as an easy and non-expensive way of producing lignocellulosic fibrous materials with enhanced mechanical properties. In the first part of the work described in this thesis, the adsorption of a polyelectrolyte monolayer onto the surface of unbleached and unbeaten kraft pulp fibres with different kappa numbers was investigated. 23. Labelling of various macromolecules using positron emitting 76Br and 68Ga : Synthesis and characterisation
Sammanfattning : Different prosthetic groups containing a trialkylstannyl- and an electrophilic group have been synthesised and labelled with the accelerator produced 76Br (T1/2=16 h) through oxidative bromination. The labelled prosthetic groups were conjugated to amino-containing macromolecules such as proteins and 5´-modified oligonucleotides. LÄS MER
24. Multilayer Structures for Biomaterial Applications : Biomacromolecule-based Coatings
Sammanfattning : The cellular response to a biomaterial, such as a dental implant, is mainly governed by the surface properties, and can thus be altered by the introduction of a surface coating. In this thesis the buildup of a biomacromolecule-based coating formed by layerby-layer (LbL) deposition of the charged polypeptides poly(L-lysine) (PLL) and poly(L-glutamic acid) (PGA) has been studied. 25. Experimental Vitreous Substitution
Sammanfattning : Blindness and visual disability are common following vitreoretinal pathologies such as open globe injury, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). These conditions often necessitate surgical intervention using vitrectomy with a tamponading vitreous substitute. LÄS MER
