  1. 11. Gonad development and male gametogenesis

    Författare :Christina Österlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Testicular and ovarian organogenesis involve a pathway of developmental genes which are differentially regulated in males and females. In mammals, sex determination is controlled by a dominant gene, SRY, located on the Y chromosome. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Characterization of the cellular receptor for coxsackievirus and adenovirus

    Författare :Momina Mirza; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : CAR, the cellular receptor for coxsackievirus and adenovirus, was discovered in 1997. CAR is an evolutionary conserved transmembrane protein that belongs to the CTX subfamily within the large immunoglobulin superfamily. At the intracellular tail, CAR has a PDZ domain binding motif suggesting that CAR is part of a larger protein complex. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Antimicrobial and xenobiotic defence in the mammalian testis

    Författare :Mona-Lisa Strand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Different mechanisms exist in the mammalian testis to protect the germ cells from autoimmune attack, invading microbes, and xenobiotic induced toxicity, which would otherwise be deleterious to the preservation of fertility. The general aim of this thesis was to study these testicular defence mechanisms, including the structural building blocks of the blood– testis barrier (BTB), antimicrobial peptides, proinflammatory cytokines and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter proteins. 4. 14. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase and Protein Kinase B; Molecular characterization in testis, adipose tissue and pancreatic beta cells

    Författare :Lena Stenson; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal transduction; pancreas; beta cells; adipocyte; insulin; Akt; protein kinase B; spermatogenesis; cholesterol esterase; hormone-sensitive lipase; testis; cAMP; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and protein kinase B (PKB) are enzymes that in different ways are associated with lipid metabolism. While HSL is the well-known lipolytic enzyme responsible for hydrolysis of stored triacylglycerols in adipose tissue, PKB is a recently identified serine/threonine protein kinase, ubiquitously expressed and involved in signal transduction pathways induced by insulin and growth factors. 5. 15. Computerized Cell and Tissue Analysis

    Författare :Azadeh Fakhrzadeh; Gunilla Borgefors; Cris Luengo Hendriks; Lena Holm; Nasir Rajpoot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Image processing; Cell; Tissue; Segmentation; Classification; Histology; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : The latest advances in digital cameras combined with powerful computer software enable us to store high-quality microscopy images of specimen. Studying hundreds of images manually is very time consuming and has the problem of human subjectivity and inconsistency. LÄS MER
