  1. 1. Perspectives on the Biological Role of Human Prostasomes

    Författare :Lena Carlsson; Outi Hovatta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Prostasomes; cryopreservation; human spermatozoa; sperm motility; anti- prostasome antibodies; PC-3 cells; Bacillus megaterium; antibacterial; antisperm antibodies; complement activation; sperm agglutination; infertility; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Prostasomes are extracellularly occurring organelles which are secreted in human semen by the prostate gland. Prostasomes have several known biological activities, but their physiological function is still unclear. In this thesis some new aspects were studied on the biological role of the prostasomes. 2. 2. Zinc and human sperm chromatin

    Författare :Svante Kjellberg; Björn Afzelius; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : X-rny microanalysis, Sephadex® chromatography of seminal plasma and exposure of spermatozoa to sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), were methods used to study the zinc content of sperm chromatin, the nature of the zinc binding ligands present in seminal plasma and the stability of the sperm chromatin in whole semen samples from fertile and infertile men. Split ejaculates were used to study the same variables in different fractions of the same ejaculate. LÄS MER

  3. 3. GABA and human spermatozoa : characterization and regulation of GABA transport proteins

    Författare :Arthur Aanesen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :GABA; spermatozoa; GABA transport; acrosome reaction; sperm motility; progesterone; protein kinase C; GAT-1; GAT-2; GAT-3; BGT-1;

    Sammanfattning : The present project aimed at investigating the interaction between GABA and human spermatozoa under in vitro conditions. Our initial hypothesis was that human spermatozoa had specific binding proteins for GABA and that the binding of GABA to such binding sites could affect sperm function. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of the regulation of human sperm motility

    Författare :Pär K G Leijonhufvud; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I address some of the possible causes for oligozoospermia and low sperm motility, two factors that, singly or in combination, are often seen in cases of male subfertility. In the first study we evaluated the effect on human spermatozoa of the toxicity of compounds present in diesel exhaust. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulation and function of the human fallopian tube

    Författare :Kjell Wånggren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Fallopian tube; endometrium; embryo; transport; prostaglandin; receptors; progesterone; mifepristone; LIF; LIFR; gp130;

    Sammanfattning : The Fallopian tube is essential for human reproduction. Transport of the spermatozoa, the egg, and later the pre-embryo is believed to be aided by muscular contractions in the wall of the Fallopian tube and cilia in the mucosa. LÄS MER
