11. Affinity assays for profiling disease-associated proteins in human plasma
Sammanfattning : Affinity-based proteomics offers opportunities for the discovery and validation of disease-associated proteins in human body fluids. This thesis describes the use of antibody-based immunoassays for multiplexed analysis of proteins in human plasma, serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). LÄS MER
12. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome
Sammanfattning : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 13. Studies of Cellular Regulatory Mechanisms : from Genetic Switches to Cell Migration
Sammanfattning : Cellular behaviour depends ultimately on the transcription of genes. If we know how transcription is controlled we have a better chance of understanding cellular processes. This thesis presents six studies, all concerning cellular regulatory mechanisms. One study is purely experimental and five are computational studies. LÄS MER
14. Structure and organization of genes for the predominant seminal plasma proteins semenogelin I, semenogelin II and beta-microseminoprotein
Sammanfattning : In man, the predominant proteins in the seminal plasma include semenogelin I, semenogelin II and b-microseminoprotein (MSP). Semenogelin I and II are both synthesized in the seminal vesicles and are the backbone of the gel formed upon semen coagulation. MSP is synthesized in the prostate, but its role has not yet been defined. LÄS MER
15. Human Glandular Kallikrein 2
Sammanfattning : Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) is a serine protease, which is predominantly expressed by the prostate gland and found in seminal plasma at mean levels of 6 mg/ml. It has 79% amino acid sequence identity with prostate-specific antigen (PSA or hK3). LÄS MER
