  1. 21. Studies on Human Endogenous Retroviruses (HERVs) with Special Focus on ERV3

    Författare :Ann-Catrin Andersson; Bengt Widegren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; human endogenous retroviruses; HERV; ERV3; expression; in situ hybridisation; real-time PCR; U-937; retinoic acid.; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) represent approximately 7% of the human genome. This investigation was focused on one particular HERV, ERV3, with the main purpose of characterising its gene expression patterns and genomic distribution of ERV3-like sequences. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Transcription, splicing and genetic structure within the human endogenous retroviral HERV-H family

    Författare :Mats Lindeskog; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; immunosuppressive envelope protein; RNA splicing; Human endogenous retrovirus; transcription; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are remains of ancient retroviral infections of the germ line and constitute as much as 3 % of the human genome. HERVs are genetic elements that potentially may provide important biological functions by several different mechanisms. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The ontogeny and regulation of human natural killer cells

    Författare :Martin A Ivarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Natural Killer (NK) cells are members of the innate lymphoid cell (ILC) family and take part in the detection and eradication of virus-infected and transformed cells. In this thesis, together with my colleagues I have investigated how NK cells and other ILCs develop and function during human fetal development, how NK cells are functionally regulated (educated) via the activating receptor KIR2DS1, and how NK cells in our body are affected during the early phase of an acute viral infection. 5. 25. Maternal and neonatal anthropometry and growth factor expression and apoptosis in human placenta : a comparison between two populations

    Författare :Shahzad Akram; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), and IGFBP proteases, are key endocrine regulators of somatic growth and cellular proliferation. IGFs are involved in growth both pre- and postnatally. LÄS MER
