21. Study of pathogenesis and immune response in human Puumala virus infection
Sammanfattning : Hantaviruses can cause two severe human diseases: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS). Hantaviruses are spread to humans mainly through inhalation of infectious virions, secreted from infected rodents. The human diseases are characterized by an increased capillary leakage syndrome. 22. Resident T cells in human skin : functional heterogeneity and clinical implications
Sammanfattning : The skin forms a critical barrier against the external environment and is therefore frequently challenged by infections and subjected to immune-mediated diseases as well as malignancies. The Tissue-Resident Memory T (TRM) cell is a subset of T cells that resides at sites of previous infection in the skin and other epithelial tissues. LÄS MER
23. T cell signatures and modulation by regulatory T cells
Sammanfattning : CD4 T cells are crucial coordinators of protective immune responses against microbes and tumors. However, immune responses misdirected towards self-antigens are the hallmarks of autoimmune diseases. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) maintain peripheral immune tolerance, mainly by suppressing effector T cells. LÄS MER
24. Tissue transglutaminase autoantibodies in childhood celiac disease
Sammanfattning : Celiac disease is a prevalent small bowel disease in children caused by permanent intolerance against gliadin, which is the alcohol-soluble fraction of the cereal protein gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa leading to damage of villous structure and loss of absorptive surface. LÄS MER
25. Immuno-modulatory functions of CD1d-restricted natural killer T cells
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on a small population of non-conventional T lymphocytes, called natural killer T (NKT) cells. NKT cells have many unique features; such as recognition of glycolipids presented by CD1d, expression of NK receptors and rapid production of large amounts of cytokines, such as IL-4 and IFN-gamma,?upon activation.
