    Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis consists of a summary and seven papers, where various applications of auto-validated computations are studied. In the first paper we describe a rigorous method to determine unknown parameters in a system of ordinary differential equations from measured data with known bounds on the noise of the measurements. 2. 2. CALL of the Wild : Using language technology in the second language classroom

    Författare :Petter Karlström; Robert Ramberg; Teresa Cerratto-Pargman; Philip Hubbard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Assisted Language Learning; Human-Computer Interaction; Interaction Design; Language Technology; Sociocultural Theory; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap; Man-Machine-Interaction MMI ; människa-maskin-interaktion mmi ;

    Sammanfattning : Technology that analyzes written human language displays compelling possibilities for computer assisted language learning (CALL). Applications may be designed to examine second language students’ free text production in order to suggest improvements, draw attention to selected linguistic elements, provide examples from native language use, etc. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Reducing Attrition via Improved Strategies for Pre-clinical Drug Discovery : SPR-biosensor Aided Interaction Studies

    Författare :Johan Winquist; Helena Danielson; Roderick E. Hubbard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The efficacy of a drug is tightly intertwined with its interaction mechanism with the drug target. The mechanism is dependent on the physicochemical and structural characteristics of both target and drug molecule.Drug discovery is plagued by a high attrition rate, whereas in the clinic, a major issue is drug resistance. 4. 4. Correlated materials : models and methods

    Författare :Hugo Strand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; correlated electrons; Hubbard model; multiband Hubbard model; dynamical mean field theory; exact diagonalization; Landau theory; Mott metal-insulator transition; Gutzwiller method; many-body point group symmetry; ironchalcogenides; Kanamori interaction; Slater-Condon interaction;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis encompass a series of studies on methods and models for electron systems with local interactions, relevant for correlated materials. The first study focus on the canonical model for local correlation, the Hubbard model. LÄS MER

    Författare :Inka Laura Marie Locht; Igor Di Marco; Olle Eriksson; Annalisa Fasolino; Mikhail I. Katsnelson; Tim Wehling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lantanides; rare earths; cohesive properties; volume; bulk modulus; magnetism; magnetic properties; photoemission spectroscopy; XPS; BIS; Hubbard I Approximation; DMFT; DFT; RSPt; Full Potential Linear Muffin-tin orbitals; 4f electrons; localization; bonding; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : We describe the rare-earth elements using the Hubbard I approximation. We show that the theory reproduces the cohesive properties, like the volume and bulk modulus, and we find an excellent agreement between theory and experiment for the (inverse) photo emission spectra of the valence band.
