11. Hydrodynamics considerations in cells systems from ocean flow to perfusion cultivation process
Sammanfattning : Microorganisms and animal cells are grown surrounded by fluid, which is providing them with nutrients and removing their waste products. In nature and industry processes, cells/microbes can be subject to aggressive environments, such as turbulent flow or shear flow. LÄS MER
12. Direct numerical simulation of turbulent flow in plane and cylindrical geometries
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with numerical simulation of turbulentflows in geometrically simple cases. Both plane and cylindricalgeometries are used. The simplicity of the geometry allows theuse of spectral methods which yield a very high accuracy usingrelatively few grid points. A spectral method for planegeometries is implemented on a parallel computer. LÄS MER
13. Transition to turbulence in the asymptotic suction boundary layer
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the numerical study of subcritical transition to turbulence in the asymptotic suction boundary layer (ASBL). Applying constant homogeneous suction prevents the spatial growth of the boundary layer, granting access to the asymptotic dynamics. LÄS MER
14. Computational Techniques for Turbulence Generated Noise
Sammanfattning : Computational techniques for the noise generated by high Mach number subsonic jets have been investigated. The main focus has been on the hybrid noise prediction method SNGR (Stochastic Noise Generation and Radiation), which is based on unsteady source modeling for the inhomogeneous linearized Euler equations (ILEE). 15. Numerical studies in rotating and stratified turbulence
Sammanfattning : Although turbulence has been studied for more than five hundred years, a thorough understanding of turbulent flows is still missing. Nowadays computing power can offer an alternative tool, besides measurements and experiments, to give some insights into turbulent dynamics. LÄS MER
