  1. 6. Cobalamin/folate status and its relation to cognition and behaviour in psychogeriatric patients

    Författare :Karin Nilsson; Lund Psykiatri; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; klinisk psykologi; Psykiatri; psychosomatics; clinical psychology; Psychiatry; folate; Cobalamin; homocysteine; methylmalonic acid; dementia; psychogeriatric patients; delirium; psykosomatik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic potentials of four different biochemical markers, serum cobalamin, blood folate, plasma homocysteine and serum methylmalonic acid for diagnosis of cobalamin/folate deficiency in a psychogeriatric population. The second aim was to investigate the relationship between these markers and various clinical and functional parameters of the nervous system in patients with dementia disorders. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Risk markers for a first myocardial infarction

    Författare :Anna Margrethe Thøgersen; Annika Rosengren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :haemostatis; lipoprotein a ; MTHFR; homocysteine; proinsulin; leptin; apolipoprotein A1; DHEAS; myocardial infarction; risk factors;

    Sammanfattning : The development of a first myocardial infarction is associated with a large number of contributing factors. Age, male sex, hypertension, smoking, diabetes, body mass index and hypercholesterolemia are considered as established risk factors. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Cobalamin communication in Sweden 1990 – 2000 : views, knowledge and practice among Swedish physicians

    Författare :Mats Nilsson; Johan Lökk; Göran Westman; Bo Norberg; Kurt Svärdsudd; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Cobalamin (vitamin B12) is one of several essential micronutrients needed by the human organism. Other important micronutritients, which interplay with vitamin B12, are folate and iron. During the last ten years, the attention has been drawn to different forms of neurological disorders supposed to be caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. LÄS MER

  4. 9. On HIV in the elderly and vitamin B metabolism in HIV infection

    Författare :Erika Tyrberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; elderly; drug levels; potential drug-drug interactions; inflammation; immune activation; antiretroviral therapy; homocysteine; neurofilament light protein;

    Sammanfattning : The evolution of the human deficiency virus (HIV) field is unparalleled in the history of infectious diseases. From the first cases in the beginning of the 1980s, when an HIV diagnosis was a death sentence, through the discovery of the first effective medicines, up till today when people living with HIV (PLHIV) with access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) can lead a near normal life. 5. 10. Vascular mechanisms in dementia with special reference to folate and fibrinolysis

    Författare :Nils-Olof Hagnelius; Torbjörn K. Nilsson; Teodoro Bottiglieri; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; vascular dementia; folate; homocysteine; vitamin B12; CSF Serum folate ratio; fibrinolysis; tPA; PAI-1; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrik; Geriatrics; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study the biomarker homocysteine and other novel potential vascular risk factors for dementia. In an out-patient based study of a cohort of 926 consecutive subjects referred to our Memory Unit during 1996―2000, serum-folate was lower and total plasma homocysteine (tHcy) and serum methyl malonate were higher in subjects being prescribed with B12.
