  1. 21. PARN - A Tale of A de-Tailor : Functional importance of poly(A) degradation in developmental and telomere biology disorders

    Författare :Sethu Madhava Rao Gunja; Anders Virtanen; Jonas von Hofsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PARN; Telomere biology disorders; snoRNAs; scaRNAs; TR TERC; Zebrafish; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is a eukaryotic 3’-5’exoribonuclease that removes poly(A) tails of many coding and non-coding RNAs. In this thesis, we have studied the physiological role of PARN. LÄS MER

  2. 22. World of faces, words and actions : Observations and neural linkages in early life

    Författare :Andrea Handl; Gustaf Gredebäck; Claes von Hofsten; Mikael Heimann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Infant development; Eye-tracking; EEG; third-party interactions; crossmodal integration; gaze processing; speech processing; mu desynchronization; action perception; imitation; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : From the start of their lives, infants and young children are surrounded by a tremendous amount of multimodal social information. One intriguing question in the study of early social cognition is how vital social information is detected and processed and how and when young infants begin to make sense of what they see and hear and learn to understand other people’s behavior. 3. 23. BMP - a key signaling molecule in specification and morphogenesis of sensory structures

    Författare :Vijay Kumar Jidigam; Lena Gunhaga; Jonas von Hofsten; Richard A. Lang; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BMP signaling; Placode morphogenesis; lens; retina; olfactory; otic; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cranial placodes are transient thickenings of the vertebrate embryonic head ectoderm that will give rise to sensory (olfactory, lens, and otic) and non-sensory (hypophyseal) components of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). In most vertebrate embryos, these four sensory placodes undergo invagination. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Prospective Control and Object Representation in Yound Infants : An action-based account

    Författare :Bert Jonsson; Claes von Hofsten; Rachel Clifton; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to study the age-related differences of prospective control and object representation in young infants. The overall set of theoretical and empirical issues addressed in this thesis consists of how infants represent and react to visible and non-visible moving objects. LÄS MER

  5. 25. When, Where and What : The Development of Perceived Spatio-Temporal Continuity

    Författare :Olga Kochukhova; Claes Von Hofsten; Richard Aslin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Psychology; infants; occlusion; incomplete visual information; saccadic gaze shifts; smooth pursuit; temporal; spatial; object representation; learning; extrapolation; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explored the development of infants’ ability to preserve spatio-temporal continuity of moving objects in situations where they disappeared completely (Study I & II) or partially (Study III) behind other objects (occluders). We recorded infants gaze direction with the help of two different techniques: 1) infants’ gaze shifts in Study I were measured with electro-oculogram (EOG) in combination with a motion analyzing system (Qualisys) that recorded the reflected infrared light from markers placed on the infant’s head and the moving object; 2) in Studies II and III a cornea reflection eye tracker was used (Tobii 1750) .
