21. Studies on sense of coherence, experienced chest pain, psychological well-being, and social support in coronary artery bypass grafting patients. A longitudinal and cross-sectional study
Sammanfattning : Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is a treatment of patients with coronary artery disease. The majority of patients are relieved of their symptoms, although subgroups have persistent/recurrent chest pain. Earlier findings indicate excellent outcome in regard to quality of life (QoL) after CABG. LÄS MER
22. Metabolic intervention during blood cardioplegia. Clinical studies in coronary surgery and heart transplantation
Sammanfattning : Myocardial ischemia and injury (infarction) during open heart surgery and heart transplantation is a problem in spite of the fact that it is a safe procedure today. The myocardial substrate metabolism is well investigated before and after the cardioplegic period but little knowledge exists about the myocardial metabolic changes during cardioplegia. LÄS MER
23. Genetic variation at the human tissue-type plasminogen activator locus
Sammanfattning : Tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) is the key initiator of intravascular fibrinolysis. Family studies suggest that tPA release is regulated by hereditary factors. LÄS MER
24. Aortic aneurysms and dissections. A clinical follow-up after surgery
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to report on the results after aortic surgery on thoracic aneurysms and dissections and to study the feasibility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the follow-up after aortic surgery. In this thesis, 203 patients ungergoing surgery on the thoracic aorta between 1977 and 2000 are included. LÄS MER
25. ß-Adrenergic receptor gene polymorphism in dilated cardiomyopathy. Clinical and functional relevance
Sammanfattning : During normal physiological conditions, catecholamines induce positive inotropic and chronotropic responses in the heart through a ß-adrenergic receptor (AR)-activated pathway. The agonist-bound ßAR selectively interacts with the stimulatory Gs-protein, which activates adenylyl cyclase, catalyzing cAMP formation. LÄS MER
