Sammanfattning : Narratives of Nordic pre-history are common in textbooks of the Swedish 'folk school'. This thesis discusses them from an ideological critical perspective and analyses them as textbook myths. This analytic concept of myth is constructed and used as a tool for studying ideological expressions in pedagogical texts. LÄS MER
3. Kraftkarlar och knockouts : Kraftsporter, kropp och klass i Sverige 1920–1960
Sammanfattning : The thesis analyses representations of body and class, and their wider ideological meaning, in Swedish power sports from 1920 to 1960. Boxing and weightlifting – sports dominated by manual workers – are chosen as study objects. The sources used are magazines connected to the power sports, and autobiographies by four prominent athletes. LÄS MER
4. "Det romantiska tidehvarfvet" : De svenska romantikernas medeltidsuppfattning
Sammanfattning : The dissertation deals with the view of the Middle Ages in the Swedish Romantic Movement in the first half of the 19th century. A presentation is given of the treatment of the Middle Ages in the historical and fictional works of the Romantics, and it is shown how this treatment was influenced by both their philosophical outlook and their view of contemporary morality and politics. 5. Nationen på spel. Kropp, kön och svenskhet i populärpressens representationer av olympiska spel 1948-1972
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I study representations of summer and winter Olympic Games and Olympic athletes in six Swedish popular magazines 1948-1972. The purpose is to examine the forms of identity produced within the nation as an “imagined community”, in discursive processes where gender, sexuality, ”race”/ ethnicity, class and age/generation intersect and mutually construct each other.
