Sammanfattning : The present dissertation discusses changes in Swedish popular education from the literacy campaign conducted at the end of the 17th century to the institution of universal elementary education in the middle of the 19th century. The onus is laid on the intense period of reform around 1770-1820, when popular enlightenment became an issue of political debate and both the content and organization of popular education was transformed. Sammanfattning : The early nineteenth century saw the emergence of institutional psychiatry across Europe. Aware that Sweden had fallen behind in this development, Parliament decreed in 1823 that a number of specialised institutions for the care of the insane were to be established. Sammanfattning : The starting point of this investigation into the Oeconomia eller Hushållsbok för ungt adelsfolk (“Householding book for young noblemen”) of Per Brahe (1520–1590) is that the 16th century was a time of change for the Swedish nobility.
