1. Studies of Budding Yeast Transcription Factors Acting Downstream of Nutrient Signaling Pathways
Sammanfattning : Being able to respond to extracellular cues such as nutrients and growth factors is of vital importance to all living cells. Pathways have therefore evolved which can sense the extracellular status, transmit a signal through the cell and affect gene expression, which ultimately enables adaptation. LÄS MER
2. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression in the vascular endothelium
Sammanfattning : Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, constitute one way for a cell or an organism to respond to changes in the surrounding environment. While histone modifications are recognized to be quite dynamic, DNA methylation has been considered a more stable, or long-term, modification. LÄS MER
3. Epigenetic Regulation of Gene Transcription in Hematopoietic Tumors
Sammanfattning : Epigenetic modifications were shown to play an essential role in tumorigenesis. Epigenetic mechanisms can alter transcription in several ways, through DNA methylation and/or through histone modification. DNA methylation at the TSS (transcriptional start site) has been implicated in tumor development and gene silencing. LÄS MER
4. Experimental combination therapy of brain cancer cell models
Sammanfattning : Epigenetic alterations and aberrant expression of genes controlling epigenetic mechanisms have been identified in several cancers, including medulloblastoma and glioma, the most common primary brain tumors in children and adults, respectively. We have been investigating if combination therapy using histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) and receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (RTKi) will enhance glioblastoma and medulloblastoma cell killing. 5. Clinical and molecular effects of azacitidine in the myelodysplastic syndromes
Sammanfattning : The myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) constitute a heterogeneous group of malignant bone marrow disorders characterized by peripheral cytopenia and increased risk of leukemic progression. In higher-risk MDS, Azacitidine has been shown to prolong survival and modulate the epigenome, although the precise mechanisms by which the drug exerts its effect are unknown. LÄS MER
