11. On a novel technique for preparation and analysis of the implant surface and its interface to bone
Sammanfattning : The ultrastructural and biomechanical properties of the bone-implant interface are important factors for implant performance. For further understanding of the osseointegration process novel tools enabling analysis of the intact interface in high resolution is needed, preferably combined with histology and biomechanical tests. 12. On tissue reactions to and resorption of bone substitutes
Sammanfattning : Background: The increasing need for bone grafting procedures inimplant dentistry and the introduction of a variety of bone substitutesrequire a deeper understanding of the biological response and shortandlong-term behaviour of these materials to choose the adequategraft and surgical procedure for the intended clinical application.Aims: The overall aim was to clinically and histologically studythe short- and long-term tissue reactions to and resorption of bonesubstitutes after bone augmentation. 13. Insulin-coated titanium implants - a potential therapy for local bone regeneration
Sammanfattning : Background: Insulin is a hormone that regulates glucose metabolism, however, it is also important for bone formation. The anabolic effect of insulin on bone could open up alternative therapies when it comes to local bone regeneration. However, this requires a method for local administration of insulin. LÄS MER
14. Masticatory retraining effect on masseter muscle, facial morphology and alveolar bone structure in the adult rat
Sammanfattning : The aim of this series of investigations was to study the effect of masticatory muscle retraining in adult rats with an earlier reduced masticatory muscle function on the craniofacial morphology, on the internal alveolar bone structure and on the deep masseter muscle. Material and Methods: Sixty young male rats received soft diet for a prolonged period, so that the animals developed weak masticatory muscles. LÄS MER
15. Artery Wall Imaging and Effects of Postmenopausal Estrogen Therapy
Sammanfattning : Postmenopausal estrogen therapy, initiated early in the menopause, seems to protect against development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. This thesis concerns studies of artery wall thickness and arterial stiffness estimated by noninvasive ultrasound techniques in long-term estrogen treated postmenopausal women who initiated therapy at the time of the menopause.
