11. Neurogenic and angiogenic actions of electroconvulsive seizures in adult rat brain
Sammanfattning : In the current thesis, the neurogenic and angiogenic response to electroconvulsive seizure (ECS)-treatment was investigated in the adult rat brain. ECS-treatment is an animal model for the antidepressant treatment electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which is considered to be the most effective antidepressant treatment modality today, however with not yet fully understood modes of action. 12. Signalling to Activation of Cytosolic Phospholipase A2 and Arachidonate Release in Macrophages
Sammanfattning : Eicosanoids include prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, which are arachidonic acid oxygenation products. These lipids make important contributions to the signs and symptoms of inflammatory diseases. LÄS MER
13. Analysis of effector pathways in arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a multifactorial, polygenic autoimmune disease. For effective treatment and control of RA, understanding of disease pathways and identification of genes involved are essential. Animal models are efficient tools to identify such pathogenic mechanisms and genes underlying the disease process. LÄS MER
14. Assessment of eosinophil degranulation in allergic diseases and experimental models
Sammanfattning : In allergic disorders, the eosinophilic granulocytes migrate to affected tissues and release granule proteins with cytotoxic, immunoregulatory, and remodeling-promoting properties. Given that degranulation is reflected by a loss in eosinophil granule density of living cells, or by cell membrane rupture and release of intact granules, these morphological changes may represent a biomarker of the allergic disease. 15. Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase Activating Peptide (PACAP): An Experimental Study On the Expression and Regulation in the Peripheral Nervous System
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with PACAP and PACAP type-1 receptors in the sensory and autonomic parts of the peripheral nervous system. In the rat, PACAP is expressed in small-sized sensory neurons and in C-fibers. LÄS MER
