1. Visual Attention in Active Vision Systems : Attending, Classifying and Manipulating Objects
Sammanfattning : This thesis has presented a computational model for the combination of bottom-up and top-down attentional mechanisms. Furthermore, the use for this model has been demonstrated in a variety of applications of machine and robotic vision. LÄS MER
2. Production and investigation of highly thermophilic multi-domain carbohydrate-active enzymes
Sammanfattning : With the looming threat of climate change caused largely by an excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, recent scientific efforts have focused on the substitution of fossil fuels and other polluting compounds with more environmentally conscious choices. To this end, the investigation of biomass as both a renewable source of energy and as a chemical basis to produce high-value products is being extensively investigated. LÄS MER
3. GaN HEMT Based Highly Integrated Active Antenna Element for Millimeter-Wave Array Transmitters
Sammanfattning : .... LÄS MER
4. Towards semi-automation of forestry cranes : automated trajectory planning and active vibration damping
Sammanfattning : Forests represent one of the biggest terrestrial ecosystems of Earth, that can produce important raw renewable materials such as wood with the help of sun, air and water. To efficiently extract these raw materials, the tree harvesting process is highly mechanized in developed countries, meaning that advanced forestry machines are continuously used to fell, to process and to transport the logs and biomass obtained from the forests. 5. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells.
