16. Cell wall bulking and distribution of different chemicals in pine, Pinus Sylvestris
Sammanfattning : The interaction between wood, Pinus sylvestris, (60% RH) and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) of different molecular weights (PEG 200 and PEG 1500), pentaerythritol and glycerol, impregnated into the wood, has been investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy, EDS-analysis, dynamical mechanical techniques (DMTA), X-ray diffraction (WAXS) and macroscopic dimensional measurement. Reduced dimensional changes after impregnation when exposed to environments with changing moisture content, showed that the stabilization effect of glycerol and PEG 200 impregnation is very good. 17. Colour changes and acid formation in wood during heating
Sammanfattning : Heating wood has since ancient times been a method to dry and modify its properties. Nowadays heat is used in industrial processes for the same reasons. Treatment at temperatures above 150ºC can change the colour, improve resistance to biodegradation and enhance dimensional stability. LÄS MER
18. Thermally homogenous gasification of biomass/coal/waste for medium or high calorific value syngas production
Sammanfattning : Today’s problems with emissions of green house gases, land filling of waste and depletion of the oil reserves calls for new energy systems based on alternative fuels like biomass and waste. Gasification is an attractive technology for the use of such solid fuels. LÄS MER
19. Particulate and gaseous emissions from residential biomass combustion
Sammanfattning : Biomass is considered to be a sustainable energy source with significant potentials for replacing electricity and fossil fuels, not at least in the residential sector. However, present wood combustion is a major source of ambient concentrations of hydrocarbons (e.g. LÄS MER
20. Food ingredients from cultivated seaweeds-Improving storage stability and protein recovery
Sammanfattning : There is a global demand for new vegetarian protein sources, and seaweed have for multiple reasons been identified as a promising candidate. The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the potential of three different Swedish seaweed species as food protein sources, but also as sources of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.
