1. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. 2. NMR Studies of Bacterial Albumin-Binding Modules
Sammanfattning : Peptostreptococcus magnus and group C/G streptococci are Gram-positive cocci that are part of the normal flora and reside in more or less the same locations in the host. Protein G of group C/G streptococci was originally described as binding IgGFc of several species and later shown to also bind human serum albumin and albumins from various animal species. LÄS MER
3. Proximity Ligation Assay for High Performance Protein Analysis in Medicine
Sammanfattning : High quality reagents are preconditions for high performance protein analyses. But despite progress in some techniques, e.g. mass spectrometry, there is still a lack of affinity-based detection techniques with enhanced precision, specificity, and sensitivity. LÄS MER
4. Protein Nanomaterials: : Functionalization, Self-assembly, and Applications
Sammanfattning : As one of the major classes of materials that is relevant to biological function of our daily life, proteins are highly interesting in both biological and material science. Self-assembled protein amyloid nanostructures have been considered not only as aggregates in pathological tissue, but also as a kind of advanced one dimension materials in material science perspective due to their favorable characteristics including high aspect ratio, abundant surface charge groups, high stability, and tunable surface properties. 5. Unravelling protein stability and aggregation
Sammanfattning : Proteins are complex macromolecules that are fundamental to all living species. The stability of proteins are governed by non-covalent forces within the protein and between the protein and its surrounding environment. LÄS MER
