11. Kinetics of Nanoparticle Catalysis from First Principles
Sammanfattning : Modern society depends heavily on heterogeneous catalysis, which creates strong economical and environmental incentives to improve catalyst efficiency. Heterogeneous catalysts are often realized as metal nanoparticles (NPs) supported on oxide surfaces, and catalysts are traditionally developed by trial and error approaches. LÄS MER
12. Operando Single Particle Catalysis - Combining a Nanoreactor and Plasmonic Nanospectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Heterogeneous catalysis is an important cornerstone of modern society with strong ties to the development of sustainable sources of energy and products. Catalysts are typically realized as supported metal nanoparticles that offer active sites that can accelerate chemical reactions by providing energetically more favorable reaction paths. LÄS MER
13. Alloy Plasmonics - Fundamentals and Applications
Sammanfattning : Alloys have for a long time been important in the development of our society; from the Bronze Age, where man learned how to alloy copper with tin, to today, where many products are made of steel and aluminum alloys. Similarly, but maybe not as generally well known, alloys have lately been proposed as a new paradigm in nanophotonics, to tailor optical properties of nanomaterials that find applications within telecommunication, sensing, or biotechnology. 14. Integration of graphene into MEMS and NEMS for sensing applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel approach to integrate chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene into silicon micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) to fabricate different graphene based MEMS/NEMS structures and explore mechanical properties of graphene as well as their applications such as acceleration sensing, humidity sensing and CO2 sensing. The thesis also presents a novel method of characterization of CVD graphene grain boundary based defects. LÄS MER
15. Quantum chemical studies of deposition and catalytic surface reactions
Sammanfattning : Quantum chemical calculations have been used to model chemical reactions in epitaxial growth of silicon carbide by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes and to study heterogeneous catalytic reactions for methanol synthesis. CVD is a common method to produce high-quality materials and e.g. LÄS MER
