  1. 6. Genetic susceptibility to cervical and gastric cancer

    Författare :Patrik Magnusson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cervical cancer; gastric cancer; genetic susceptibility; familiality; heritability; HPV; Helicobacter pylori; genetic association; HLA; P53; loss of heterozygosity; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical and gastric cancer both to a large extent depend on infectious agents. Cervical infection with human papilloma virus increases the risk for cervical cancer substantially, and infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori increases the risk for gastric cancer. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Quantitative Genetics and Genome Structure in a Wild Population: the Use of a Great Reed Warbler Pedigree

    Författare :Mikael Åkesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genome mapping ; AFLP; microsatellite; synteny; heterochiasmy; recombination; chicken; great reed warbler ; bird; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Animal ecology; trait correlation ; Djurekologi; animal model ; selection; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; heritability;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term studies of birds play an important role in the understanding of quantitative traits in natural populations. The relative ease by which individual birds can be monitored and caught in the wild enable us collect detailed information from individuals throughout their life time, sometimes from several generations in a population. 3. 8. Migrän : Genetiskt inflytande, uppväxtförhållanden och personlighet i migränfamiljen

    Författare :Bertil Persson; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; anxiety; neuroticism; Migraine; extraversion-introversion; intra-class correlation; heritability; psychosocial environment; Sibling Behavioral Genetic Method.;

    Sammanfattning : The monograph consists of an extensive survey of psychological and behavioral genetic research on migraine, reports of three empirical studies in this area and an extensive English summary. Study 1 indicated persons with migraine (n=28) drawn from a neurological clinic to have experienced negative psychosocial events to a significantly greater extent during their development than persons free of migraine in general population (n=28) had. 4. 9. Phenotypic Plasticity and Adaptation Potential to Salinity in Early Life Stages of the Tunicate, Ciona intestinalis spB

    Författare :Elin Renborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transgenerational acclimation; Environmental variation; Tolerance range; Marine invertebrate; Quantitative genetics; Genetic structure; Local adaptation; Sexual selection; Gamete compatibility; Relatedness; Inbreeding; Heritability; Maternal effects;

    Sammanfattning : Species respond to environmental heterogeneity through a variety of mechanisms such as plasticity, genetic adaptation and phenotypic buffering. Determining how gene flow, scale of environmental heterogeneity and trait heritability influence these responses is important for understanding how these different mechanisms arise, which is a central task in the field of evolutionary biology. 5. 10. Lower Urinary Tract symptoms in women – Aspects on epidemiology and treatment

    Författare :Anna Lena Wennberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Urinary incontinence; Overactive bladder; Lower urinary tract symptoms; Epidemiology; Prevalence; Incidence; Progression; Twins; Genetic; Heritability;

    Sammanfattning : Lower urinary tract symptoms in women – aspects on epidemiology and treatment Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common conditions that compromise a person’s quality of life and result in increased health care costs for society. The aims of this thesis were to describe the prevalence and natural course of different LUTS in women (Paper I), to assess prevalence changes over time (Paper II), and to evaluate the importance of genetic factors on LUTS (Paper III).
