6. The hemostatic pathway in ischemic stroke. Clinical studies of genetic variation and plasma protein measurements
Sammanfattning : Although stroke is a common cause of death and disability in adults, there are few studies on stroke compared to other common diseases. A stroke could be either ischemic or hemorrhagic, but even within these two groups, disease etiology shows heterogeneity. LÄS MER
7. Thrombosis in Children
Sammanfattning : Aims: The general objective was to further elucidate thromboembolic disease in children and thereby help improve the care of these patients. More specific aims were as follows: to determine what children are affected by thrombosis; to discern any gender or age differences related to thrombosis; to identify prothrombotic risk factors; to ascertain whether autoantibodies against coagulation proteins constitute a risk factor for childhood thrombosis; to study girls receiving estrogen treatment with regard to induced hemostatic changes and efficacy of the therapy; to investigate long-term effects on the hemostatic system in children subjected to heart surgery. 8. Studies on interfaces between primary and secondary hemostasis
Sammanfattning : Our conceptual understanding of hemostasis is still heavily influenced by outdated experimental models wherein the hemostatic activity of platelets and coagulation factors are understood and studied in isolation. Although perhaps convenient for researchers and clinicians, this reductionist view is negated by an ever increasing body of evidence pointing towards an intimate relationship between the two phases of hemostasis, marked by strong interdependence. 9. Translational studies on mechanical hemostasis and coagulopathy in trauma
Sammanfattning : Trauma, in terms of physical injury, is the leading cause of death and disability among children and young adults worldwide. Hemorrhage and coagulation dysfunction are two important causes of preventable deaths after traumatic injuries. LÄS MER
10. Hemostasis in middle-aged women with coronary heart disease
Sammanfattning : Inflammation and hemostasis play important roles in atherosclerotic disease. Chronic low-grade inflammation contributes to plaque vulnerability and rupture, and the subsequent thrombus formation is identified as the key mechanism in the pathogenesis of the acute coronary syndromes.
