6. Extreme hemodilution: Effects of inhalation anesthetics, hypoxia, and blood loss. An Experimental study in pigs
Sammanfattning : Hemodilution reduces the need for blood transfusion and hereby the risk for transmission of infectious agents. The present study investigated effects on systemic and myocardial circulation and oxygenation, and blood lactate concentrations; induced by nitrous oxide, isoflurane, hypoxia, and uncompensated blood loss, in pigs hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11%. 7. Microcirculation in tissue repair - from microsurgery to 3D bioprinting
Sammanfattning : Microsurgical reconstruction is challenged by two main shortcomings: Perfusion Related Complication (PRC) and donor site morbidity. In the first 3 studies of this thesis, we aimed to provide solutions to PRC-problems, investigating hemodilution as a tool able to increase blood flow in flap microcirculation. LÄS MER
8. Cardiopulmonary bypass and the kidney - studies on patients undergoing cardiac surgery
Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury is a common complication after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), and has a major impact on morbidity, mortality and costs. The mechanism of CPB-related renal impairment is not fully understood. LÄS MER
9. Clinical Bedside Studies of Cerebral Blood Flow in Severe Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Using Xenon CT
Sammanfattning : Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is frequently complicated by delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), contributing to poor outcome. Particularly for patients in poor neurological state, prediction of the acute clinical course is difficult, as is the early detection of DCI. LÄS MER
10. The use of fibrinogen in cardiac surgery patients-clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass impairs hemostasis due to hemodilution and consumption of platelets and coagulation factors, such as fibrinogen. The aim of this thesis was to study the role of fibrinogen in bleeding complications in cardiac surgery patients. LÄS MER
