11. Experimental Studies on Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects of Intraosseous Access
Sammanfattning : Reliable access to the circulation is paramount in most medical and surgical emergencies. When venous access cannot be expediently established, intraosseous (IO) access is indicated. This method has a high success rate even in relatively inexperienced hands and there is considerable clinical experience of IO administration of drugs and fluids. LÄS MER
12. Splanchnic perfusion in cardiac surgery
Sammanfattning : Splanchnic ischemia in cardiac surgery is considered a risk factor in the development of the Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), which is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the intensive care unit. Splanchnic ischemia/reperfusion may lead to an injury of the intestinal mucosa and induce a systemic inflammation (SIRS), which is proposed to precede MODS. LÄS MER
13. Fat contamination of pericardial suction blood in cardiac surgery : clinical and experimental studies in perspectives of transfusion logistics
Sammanfattning : Introduction: During cardiac surgery aided by cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) the autotransfusion of pericardial suction blood (PSB) is regarded mandatory to limit allogeneic blood exposure. PSB is however proposed as a source of lipid microemboli and to contribute to brain damage. LÄS MER
14. Fluid resuscitation in controlled and uncontrolled hemorrhage
Sammanfattning : Background: For many years, early intravenous fluid resuscitation has been widely accepted as an appropriate treatment of the trauma patient at the scene of the injury, regardless of the type of trauma and hemorrhage. The present Thesis describes the effects of fluid resuscitation on the hemodynamics in the presence of a limited controlled hemorraghe and also particularly in the situation when the bleeding is uncontrolled. 15. Cooling and dopamine
Sammanfattning : There is little knowledge about the circulatory effects of dopamine in hypothermia. Induced hypothermia has been shown to improve outcome in various settings. Hypothermia is also used for preservation of organs that are harvested for transplantation. LÄS MER
